Hydrogeology and chemical weathering
  • Water quality
  • Metal speciation
  • Stream water chemistry modeling

Leonette's research investigates the role of the hyporheic zone in metal speciation during chemical weathering of black shales. Her study area is the Little Red River region of central Arkansas and investigates the weathering of these metal-rich shales and their appearance in the hyporheic zone between surface and ground waters. Her interests also include the transformation and bioavailability of metals to aquatic organisms to determine metal release impacts on water and sediment quality in the area.
