Interests
Born in Christchurch, New Zealand,
raised in Paris, France, college
educated in Wales, United Kingdom and
Boca Raton, Florida, I am currently
pursuing my PhD in Environmental
Sciences with the hope of eventually
teaching science, at the university
level, especially marine biology and
ornithology for majors and non-majors.
I was very young when I was first
exposed to the marine world.
The exposure sparked my interest in
marine mammals and their protection,
which then set the stage for my course
of undergraduate studies.
My travels around the world only added
to my passion for the ocean.
Later on, I was given the opportunity by
Dr. Aldemaro Romero to teach as an
assistant a marine biology field course
during my senior year as an
undergraduate at Florida Atlantic
University.
From this experience, I realized that I
wanted teaching to be a part of my
future and decided to continue my
studies in science to pursue my dreams.
My graduate studies furthered my
knowledge of ecology and gave me an
opportunity to make a difference by
applying what I had learned during my
thesis to a current environmental issue
with Florida Burrowing Owls (Athene
cunicularia floridana)
on the FAU campus.
Finally, since education meant so much
to me, I took a job with an NSF-funded
project in science education.
While I enjoyed working with k-8
teachers, my true love lies in becoming
a professor at the college level and so
I decided to go back to school on order
to pursue my dreams. During my
first semester at ASU I took a course
with Dr. Risch and realized that bird
behavior was my passion, so I'm now
working on the Bluebird project under
his assistance. I will be looking
at egg color and its effect on mate
selection.
After my doctoral years, I hope to
continue my research and teach at the
university level. On a side note, you
would normally find me bird watching,
playing video games, watching movies,
spending time with my friends and family (my cat Hobbes) or just loving life!
