WRL Labs was founded as an academic research lab focused on applied geochemistry in 2000. Initial research efforts centered on application of geochemistry to biological problems, hence the original name "Water-Rock-Life". Since 2000 this laboratory has grown into a dynamic and exciting research facility.
WRL is dedicated to the development and application of new analytical techniques to answer fundamental biological and geological questions.
Our mission is to develop and apply new analytical techniques to address fundamental biological and geological questions. To that end, we are developing hyphenated mass spectrometric techniques that will detect and characterize metals and complexing ligands in complex matrices.
We believe education is equally as important as research, and therefore we also teach about analytical geochemistry and promote education about good laboratory practices related to the collection and interpretation of chemical data.
Research results are published in peer-reviewed scientific publications with research activities also summarized for the general public and supporting agencies in the form of a newsletters and internal publications.
WRL Labs aims to be a "Center for Analytical Research and Development" both here at ASU and elsewhere. Our laboratory serves as a full service contract laboratory providing chemical and age and growth data to researchers around the world. Training and analytical support is available to all users of our facilities.
